Project Reflection:
The greatest challenge I faced in this project was trying to come to terms with how our work was being displayed. For me personally, I was very unhappy that we spent the entire semester building a very strong inquiry on the labor topics and the final outcome was an audio recording. I overcame this challenge by deciding to not waste the knowledge I gained by going my own way and making a creative writing piece. Seeing that I made a much better product without doing a podcast tells me that I was successful in overcoming my challenge.
If I could go back and do this project all over again, what I would do differently is start thinking about the final product much much earlier. We gained so much background information that we could have done so much with but ended up recording our voices. I would've started thinking individually about what I myself would do to elevate my understanding of the project as well as the project itself. Project based learning means to discover the genuine relevance of all the stacks of primary documents and information learned. With this project, I don't think this target was hit given that we had the entire semester.
The greatest insight I gained in this project was reading all of the texts that painted the picture of what life was like in the period of the industrial revolution. I thought it was very helpful for me to learn about the state of america in the past and how it evolved in to what it has become today. I thought it was also very helpful to take a look at our current state of government and technology to try to make educated predictions on where society is headed.
What I'm most proud of in this project is my final writing piece. I'm so glad that I decided to listen to my heart and not do a podcast but express my learning through a creative outlet that I feel a little bit skilled in.
One way I grew as a student was by learning how to be a little bit more individual. I feel that podcasts were the least effective way of showing learning and a younger me would've done a podcast without having a backbone and voicing how I feel. The decision I made to do my own project made me enjoy my outcome and that's how I've grown as a student.
